Isn’t that what all of us over weight folks are looking for?
Are you tired of the Yo-Yo weight problem? You know, you lose some weight on the latest “diet of the month” plan, but, for what ever reason (life gets in the way, you hate the food, etc., etc.), you don’t stick with it. And, when you go off the diet, you gain back what you lost and then some. Isn’t there a way you can achieve safe, permanent weight loss?
The good news is it can be done. But, safe and permanent weight loss won’t happen over night and it will require you to change your eating habits and the way you think about food.
When done properly, you can lose weight and still eat a balanced diet of foods you like that are good for you and provide the nutrition you need to feel good.
The secret to weight loss is really simple – you burn more calories than you eat. This can is best done by a combination of the decreasing the amount of food you eat, eating healthy, and increasing the amount of exercise you get. Sounds easy, but finding the right program to provide safe permanent weight loss can be a real challenge.
A good safe program will give you a weight loss of one to two pounds a week. Why so slow? Because if you lose weight much faster than that, your body will start burning muscle tissue instead of fat. Needless to say that is NOT a good thing. Also, with fast weight loss, your body goes into starvation mode and hangs on to the fat in your body against what it sees as future deprivation.
What about food for safe permanent weight loss? A good plan should have good balance between proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. In spite of what you may read about low fat, low carb, or high protein diets, your body needs all three to function properly. You just have to get proportions and amount of food you eat right. There should also be enough variety of foods allowed so that you don’t have to eat foods you hate or get bored. eating only a limited number of foods.
Another part of any successful weight loss program is exercise. Yes, I know, exercising is not one of your favorite things to do. But there are good valid reason for it. It burns calories, and anything that does that is a step in the right direction, Also, exercise will help boost your overall metabolism rate (the rate at which your body converts food into energy). It will also help build and tone muscle tissue, help prevent osteoporosis, boost production of “good” cholesterol, and help reduce depression and anxiety. As you can see , adding exercise the weight loss plan gives a lot of benefits besides burning more calories.
Exercise doesn’t have to be hours spent at the gym on a treadmill, or jogging in the summer heat. A brisk walk will work fine. Other ideas are dancing, mowing the grass, swimming, bike riding, etc. Anything that will get you moving and burning those calories.
